This is a very interesting sapphire and would be amazing for a non traditional engagement ring. The hard decision would be which way to set it, standard side up or upside down. The lines across the stone are rutile crystals that grew through it as the main crystal grew. This is commonly called silk and many sapphires are heat treated to remove it. This sapphire was heavily saturated with rutile silk so the cutter chose to make a feature out of it which was a great choice. Light reflects off the rutile and gives the stone a glowing look depending on angle and light source. Its a stone that really needs to be seen in person to appreciate.
