Zircon is the birthstone for December and is commonly confused with cubic zirconia. Australian zirconia is the oldest mineral found on Earth and is 4.4 billion years old; it is a 6-7.5 on the Mohs scale. Available in a spectrum of colours, zircon ranges from yellow, colourless, brown, orange, red, blue, and green.

Due to the softness of the stone, it is not recommended for an engagement ring as they are prone to scratch when knocked against hard surfaces. Utopian Creation's zircons are sourced from Mud Tank in the Northern Territory and occasionally in Queensland and New South Wales as a by-product of sapphire mining.
